In a bid to bring more personalized learning experiences to educators and students, Google LLC said today it’s bringing more tools and features to Workspace for Education and its Chromebook laptops.

Workspace for Education is a collection of tools for schools and universities to improve learning and collaboration. It includes cloud-based apps such as Gmail, Drive and Calendar, as well as tools for education that assist in classrooms and help students work together.

Google said that in 2025 classrooms equipped with Chromebooks will be able to use Google Class tools for smoother remote-control lessons. Teachers and professors will be able to share content directly to Chromebook screens, view progress, share work with the whole class and use AI to share live translations in real-time during lessons.

Classroom, a free education platform designed for making, distributing and grading assignments, will also be getting upgrades that will allow educators to place students into different groups so that they can receive assignments. Teachers can assign class assignments and projects to individualized groups based on specific needs, such as reading, homework and more. Educators can also set grades at greater scale, such as giving all students the same grade at once to save time on grading and keep a grade book up to date.

As for parents and guardians, teachers can now keep them in the loop more easily by sharing a link to the Classwork page within Classroom. This way parents can stay ahead of what homework and assignments are up and receive a weekly email summary.

Google added yet more tools across Google Classroom and Chromebooks including more add-ons that can be accessed within Classroom. Students and teachers can now access FigJam, a collaborative whiteboard app from Figma Inc.; Education Perfect, a learning and assessment platform; and Discovery Education, an online learning platform.

Not leaving artificial intelligence behind, Google is bringing the power of Gemini, its heavy-hitting generative AI model, to its educational offerings. The Gemini app provides features such as double-checking information for students using Google Search and additional safety tuning for younger users.

NotebookLM Plus, the company’s AI research and note-taking assistant powered by Gemini, is now available to older students and educators. It can quickly summarize information and create lesson plans, study guides, quizzes and more based on uploaded sources.

Last year, Google launched Google Vids, an AI-powered video creation app now available for students and educators to collaborate to create imaginative videos. Now it’s integrated with Google Classroom, and teachers can assign video projects or quickly generate their own video explainers for lessons for their students in minutes.
